I would consider a drive along Hwy 49 from Nevada City to Mariposa. The Gold Country is charming and less expensive.

Amador and Calaveras Counties have an abundant amount of small winerys.

Sutter Creek is Charming, Murphy's is worth a trip.

A visit to Kautz Winery is worth a trip anytime.

For a small winery Black Sheep Murphy's or Chaton on Hwy 4 above Angels Camp.

There are many small motels and nice B&B's

What ever you do have fun

PS On the Southern end is Yosemite

A nice drive in the Alexander Valley still have lots of wineries that give free taste test.

Also it has great places like Navarro That wont sell to the big stores.

** stay away from Napa Valley -Almost all napa Valley charges 6-25$ per person for taste test.

Besides Napa is always crowded

What do you like to do? Carmel is a beautiful coastal town south of San Francisco, while Mendicino County has many amazing spots.
